A school as a "growing sculpture" in the perspective of sustainable development

Sustainability aims to link social and economic justice, ecological responsibility and cultural diversity in a global perspective. This is radical in the sense of the latin radix, "going to the root". Such radicalism is what the Growing Sculpture Heiligengeist School Lüneburg intends to serve.

In its approach to strengthen the school organism through a sculptural, artistic process, this project explores an innovative kind of aesthetic education for sustainable development.

The project executing organisation is the und. Institut for Art, Culture and Sustainability (und.Institut) based in Berlin, Frankfurt/Main and Hamburg.

The Institute for Integrative Studies (infis) at the University of Lüneburg is accompanying the art project scientifically and contributing its expertise in relation to education for sustainable development.

In September the German UNESCO-Commission declared the Growing Sculpture Heiligengeist School Lüneburg an Official Project of the UNESCO-Decade "Education for Sustainable Development".

The project is supported by the Altner Combecher Foundation for Ecology and Peace and the Institute for Environment Communication (infu) at the University of Lüneburg.
